.KEY MESSAGES...

- Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect today for most of
  the mountains in Colorado and La Sals and Abajos of Utah.

- Total snowfall amounts will range from 6 to 12 inches with
  locally higher amounts possible. Additional accumulations
  today will favor the southern mountains.

- Localized areas of fog will continue impacting valley areas
  through the morning, including along I-70.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...

Snow is ongoing around the region as the winter storm continues.
High resolution guidance suggests that much of the remaining
snowfall will occur over the next few hours, but by late morning
snowfall rates and coverage will begin to decrease. Advection of
anomalously dry air into the region will end the storm, dropping
precipitation chances to near zero from the northwest to
southeast as it moves across the CWA. By this evening snowfall
looks to conclude across the region. From around 5AM through
this evening mountain areas could see a few more inches of snow,
although the southern mountains should receive the most.

Some of the lower valleys have been hovering around near
freezing temperatures, which has made for some very wet snow, or
a wintry mix at times. Temperatures should decrease in the
hours before sunrise, but many of these areas will quickly warm
to above freezing with the onset of daytime heating. Some valley
areas have localized areas of fog, which is expected to persist
through the morning.

A cold front pushing southward will drop temperatures through
the weekend. Daytime highs today will be near or below normal,
and tomorrow an additional drop in temperatures will bring
highs to well below normal for many areas.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...

The long term period starts with a shortwave moving across the spine
of the Continental Divide. This wave won`t have much moisture to
work with so the end result will be around 2 to 4 inches across the
northern mountains, highest amounts for the Park Range, and around
an inch for the Flat Tops and central mountains. These amounts may
change as we get closer to Sunday but wouldn`t expect much variation
due to how dry the atmosphere will be.  Another wave looks possible
Tuesday but as of now, conditions will be even drier so might see a
few flurries for the higher elevations as it pushes through. A high
amplitude transitory ridge then quickly slides through Tuesday night
through Thursday morning. The next system will then bring another
chance for precip Thursday into Friday though differences pop up
between models on the evolution of the system and associated precip.
Plenty of time to work out these differences. As far as temperatures
are concerned, highs will start out below climatological norms but
will start warming up Tuesday onwards. By the end of the week, highs
will be a few to several degrees above those same normals.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SUNDAY/...

Though snowfall has mostly dwindled across the region, some
additional accumulation remains possible over KASE, KEGE, KMTJ,
KTEX, and KGUC. Regardless, ILS breakpoints are being reached or
are expected to be reached during the next 6-12 hours at most
terminals aside from KRIL, KHDN, KVEL, and KCNY. Now, the
primary concern is reduced vis from fog at KGJT. Fog has
lingered longer than expected, and KGJT is at VLIFR for the
moment. The tempo has been extended to 19Z with VCFG lasting
through 20Z, though uncertainty remains on when exactly the fog
will begin to clear.
