.SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Issued at 221 PM EDT Thu Mar 26 2026

As a low pressure system and upper trough swing through the Great
Lakes, this has increased pressure gradients at the surface and
introduced a 45kt LLJ. Ample mixing today has allowed for winds
aloft to gust at the surface. We have seen wind gusts up to 35mph
this afternoon. These gusts will slacken some with sunset, but still
remain around 20-25mph. We are still on track for record or near-
record high temperatures today in the 80s.

Tonight, a cold front will drop south into the region bringing a
decaying line of showers and storms. Look to see this line enter
southern IN around 9Z and move south through the morning. Soundings
continue to show good capping and little instability. So not
expecting severe weather, but some gusty winds might be possible
over the far northern portion of the region. We will see ample
moisture in the region, which will bring moderate to heavy showers.
Showers and storms will not last long in any one location, therefore
QPF will be light around 0.2-0.4 inches.

On Friday, precip will continue to move south and exit southern KY
in the late afternoon. With frontal passage, winds will shift from
the north, skies will clear within a few hours, and temperatures
will fall. Temperatures on Friday will be non-diurnal with afternoon
temperatures in the 50s. Conditions will remain breezy through the
day.

&&

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 221 PM EDT Thu Mar 26 2026

===== Drier Weather This Weekend=====

High pressure and strong CAA will move into the region on Friday
night. This will allow winds to weaken and skies to clear, bringing
excellent radiative cooling. Temperatures on Saturday morning look
to be at or below freezing. Therefore, we will need a Freeze Watch
for Friday night and Saturday morning. Highs will be in the 50s on
Saturday.

High pressure will begin to slide east of the region on Saturday
night. Sunday morning we will see temperatures near freezing in the
Bluegrass and eastern areas and mid-upper 30s over the southwestern
areas. Will likely need a frost/freeze headline for Sunday morning.
Southerly flow will increase on Sunday and help to warm temperatures
into the 60s.

===== Early-Mid Next Week =====

Expansive ridging will move east and center over the northern Gulf.
This will increase heights over the region and temperatures each
day. By Wednesday we will see temperatures 15-20 degrees above
normal. Southerly flow will keep WAA and moisture over the region.
Waves of vorticity moving northeast into the ridge will increase
chances for showers and storms each day. We won`t see continuous
precip, but several rounds of precip and breaks in between. A low
pressure system will move through the Great Lakes and send a cold
front into the Ohio Valley by late next week.

&&

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z SATURDAY/...
Issued at 123 PM EDT Thu Mar 26 2026

Gusty southwest winds up to 25-30kts will continue through the
afternoon. VFR conditions will continue through most of the
overnight. Early Friday morning, a cold front will drop south into
the region and bring a line of showers and storms. Ahead of the
storms, we will see a LLJ ramp up and bring LLWS to all terminals.
Timing for showers and storms will be after 9Z in southern Indiana
and after 12Z in central Kentucky. MVFR CIGs are expected with this
line.
