.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 1231 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

- Hot and dry weather is expected through the end of July.

- Rising temperatures this week may lead to increasing heat risks.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Monday)
Issued at 1231 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

Sunday brings another hot and dry day with highs straddling seasonal
normals in the mid 90s to around 100. A minor rise in Gulf moisture
arriving with a subtle inverted trough will boost peak heat indices
southeast of the Balcones Escarpment and across the Coastal Plains
into the 100 to 107 range. The added moisture may bring a lone
shower or two over the Coastal Plains this afternoon. Otherwise,
expect the usual scattered and benign cumulus dotting a sunny day.
Monday offers similar weather. The afternoon wind direction is
expected to be slightly more southerly and help raise air
temperatures a notch, but dew points should be slightly lower,
leading to more or less the same hot weather.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Monday night through Saturday)
Issued at 1231 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

The dog days of summer continue through the end of July. The core of
strong subtropical ridging will wander around the Texas Panhandle
and New Mexico through the week. As conditions remain dry and the
airmass warms, near surface humidity should mix out more and allow
daytime highs to inch upwards into the triple digits. Outside of the
slightly cooler higher elevations in the Hill Country, most of South
Central Texas is forecast to see multiple days of 100F+ highs this
week. Overnight lows will stay around the mid to upper 70s. This
combination may lead to rising heat risks through the week.

The forecast through at least Friday stays dry for essentially
everyone in the local area. However, there is good model agreement
that the core of the subtropical ridge will slowly saunter a little
more west this upcoming weekend. Northerly flow through the Plains
and increased troughiness could support some low end rain chances
during the weekend, though the moisture supply does not look
especially plentiful at this time.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1231 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

All terminals are VFR at the start of this period. We are not
seeing any low clouds developing on satellite this morning. Models
are also keeping terminals VFR, but we still expect MVFR ceilings
to be at least intermittent in the Austin and San Antonio areas
beginning in the next couple of hours until late morning. DRT will
remain VFR through the period. We expect all terminals to stay VFR
through the night Sunday into Monday.
